The Shahid Nasheer Memorial Fellowship at Checkpoint Theatre
In 2025, Checkpoint Theatre launched the Shahid Nasheer Memorial Fellowship: a yearlong, paid residency and traineeship programme to support one early-career theatremaker looking to elevate their skills and hone their artistic vision.
This Fellowship is created in memory of Checkpoint Theatre’s collaborator and friend Shahid Nasheer (1996–2024), who believed strongly in the importance of holistic development as theatremakers, and in uplifting fellow artists.
The inaugural Shahid Nasheer Memorial Fellow for 2025–2026 is Krys Yuan.
The Shahid Nasheer Memorial Fellowship is supported by generous donations from Shahid’s family and friends, and from other donors.

Checkpoint Theatre is dedicated to mentoring and nurturing new Singapore voices from diverse backgrounds and bringing original Singapore stories to everyone through our school and public outreach initiatives. We need the support of our corporate partners to continue our work. Partner with us to achieve:

Checkpoint Theatre is frequently commissioned to present work at the Singapore International Festival of Arts and its predecessor the Singapore Arts Festival. We are also regularly commissioned several times by the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, NUS Arts Festival and Singapore Writers’ Festival, and we have presented work in collaboration with the National Museum of Singapore. Our work has toured cities worldwide, including Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney and New York.

Thank you for believing in the original Singapore stories that Checkpoint Theatre tells. We are incredibly grateful for your contribution and are proud to have your continued support as our Champion.
Checkpoint Theatre is proud to have launched our No Questions Asked programme in 2024. Since then, we’ve organised NQA tickets to our world-class theatre productions such as Secondary: The Musical, Playing With Fire, Hard Mode, and The Fourth Trimester. We appreciate the generosity of our Checkpoint Champions for donating and making this initiative possible.
What is Checkpoint Theatre’s NQA Ticket Scheme?
We are committed to championing and sharing original Singapore stories with as many theatre-lovers as possible. Checkpoint Theatre’s No Questions Asked (NQA) Ticket Scheme is our initiative offering complimentary tickets to audiences in need, based on an honour system. This means we trust you to act with integrity and help us ensure that NQA tickets get to theatre-lovers who genuinely can’t afford a ticket.
Who can book an NQA ticket?
Anyone without the means to buy a ticket can book an NQA ticket, no questions asked.
Each person may only book ONE NQA ticket. NQA tickets are issued on a first-come-first-served basis.
In keeping with the spirit of the NQA initiative, please consider if other audience members may benefit more from the complimentary ticket. If you can afford to do so, please purchase a ticket instead. There are various discount tiers detailed on each show’s event listing, should you need them for your purchase.
How do I book an NQA ticket?
You may book an NQA ticket when we announce them for a production.
This sounds great! How can I help to support the NQA scheme and other similar initiatives?
Initiatives like our NQA ticket scheme are made possible through the generosity of our supporters and donors who we call our Checkpoint Champions. If you would like to donate to our NQA programme or any of our other initiatives to bring original Singapore stories to a wider audience, please visit our Donate page for more information.
