Claire Wong: The Director’s Craft
In this talk, Claire Wong shared her strategies as director of the latest three Checkpoint productions — Still Life, Displaced Persons’ Welcome Dinner and Eat Duck. Together with Chew Wei Li, the audience was given an insight into her unique multidisciplinary process which begins from the analysis of the script and extends to the world-making of each play.
She shares, “The role of the director is one that requires delicate balance, to design and to craft a new world. I’m composing a symphony, finding the magic, and the actor is my main instrument.”
By shifting her lens to suit the needs of each project, Claire takes on varying techniques in the rehearsal room, guided by key principles to drive her to create powerful, moving, and excellent stage productions.
