Works in Development 2016

Past Productions & Events

Presented by Checkpoint Theatre as part of Singapore Writers Festival 2016
8 November 2016, Play Den at The Arts House

Checkpoint Theatre is the home of new Singapore playwriting, and its Works in Development showcase is an important part of a rigorous developmental process that brings new works from page to stage. Past scripts that have undergone this careful and considered process include the critically acclaimed Faith Ng’s Normal and Joel Tan’s The Way We Go. This one-night-only event presented the dramatised readings of Associate Artists’ Faith Ng and Lucas Ho’s latest plays. Audience members were invited to give detailed feedback as the works continue to be developed for production.

Housewarming by Faith Ng
There is a housewarming but every couple is late, bogged down by conversations revolving around work, housing and babies. What happens after the wedding? How many milestones does one have to pass to finally ‘make it’ as an adult? And why is a married couple’s sex life everybody’s business?

FRAGO by Lucas Ho
For their seventh year in reservist, a group of army mates have to participate in a war exercise, firing blanks at enemies. In the heat of this ‘battle’, they each become aware of very real struggles in their personal civilian lives, ones which they can’t just chao keng out of.
